A tailor has created the ultimate cycling wear for businessmen.

Budding tycoons can now move straight from bike to boardroom without first having to ditch the Lycra shorts and tight fitting t-shirt for a sober business suit, thanks to a Huddersfield man.

Inspired by the Tour de France’s visit to Yorkshire, Scott Hufton, director of Owen Scott Bespoke Tailors, has produced the first-ever bespoke cycling suit for commuters.

The Owen Scott Tour de France Cycling Suit, which sells for £495, is described as fashionable with a contemporary fit. It even comes with a padded double seat for added comfort on the saddle.

The lining is an eye-catching yellow to tie in with the symbolic Tour de France jersey, while detachable florescent pocket flaps, trouser turn ups and back collar provide visibility on the road in darker conditions.

The suit is tailored to accommodate the typical cyclists’ “crouch” while the trouser fit has been made narrow for extra cycling safety.

The revolutionary suit is made from Huddersfield cloth supplied by Dugdale Brothers, based at Northumberland Street, and finished by Moldgreen-based WT Johnson & Sons.

It has been developed to keeps its shape in extremes of heat and humidity and is half-lined for “breathability” and comfort, –with a button tab fastener for wind protection.

The suit is finished with Nanobloc, a treatment developed by WT Johnson, which forms a high performance stain resistance around the fibres of the fabric, meaning the cloth retains its luxury soft feel and liquids bead up and roll off, keeping fabrics looking newer for longer.

Scott said: “Yorkshire was absolutely gripped by the Tour de France and with so many more businessmen taking to their bikes as a result, I wanted to design something that would suit their active lifestyle, which was smart, contemporary and could take them straight to the office environment. This suit is new ground for tailoring and ticks all the boxes.”

He said the suit would be available in a choice of 32 colours from Owen Scott’s Huddersfield and Leeds stores and in four shades on its website. The company also has offices at London’s Savile Row – and expects City businessmen to be among those snapping up the new suits.

He said: “I don’t ride, but I just got the bug along with everyone else when the Tour came to Huddersfield. I thought ‘Let’s have a bit of fun with this’ and started making some drawings. That’s how it started off, but it has got to be serious and I realised we could go somewhere with it.. I’m sure it is going to grow because of the Tour.”
