A TAXI driver was beaten by two hooded yobs last night.

The 55-year-old Asian driver took the pair from the rank in Beast Market, to Sainsbury's supermarket at about 7.45pm.

They claimed they needed to go to the cash machine to withdraw money to pay for the trip.

However when they got into the car park they started demanding the driver hand over his money.

The driver tried to drive to safety with the teenagers still in the back of the car.

He drove to the petrol station forecourt where, without warning, he was hit three times on the back of the head with an unknown object.

He was then attacked again with a weapon leaving him with wounds to his face and neck.

Dc Russ Conlon, of Huddersfield CID, said: "This is a nasty attack and we are hoping somebody spotted something that might help us."

The attackers are described as African- Caribbean, in their mid-teens and wearing dark hooded tops.
