PEOPLE across Yorkshire are being encouraged to get involved in International Fitness Week this week.

They are being urged to make a pledge to take part in some regular physical activity.

Regional director for public health at NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, Paul Johnstone, said: “It is important for your long term heath that you take regular exercise.

“That doesn’t mean that you have to go on a strenuous run every day, there are lots of fun activities you can take part in which will help you to stay healthy.

“Now that we are heading towards spring and the weather is more favourable, why not take the whole family for a walk in the countryside or in one of the regions parks. Walking can get the heart rate up, you’ll get plenty of fresh air and you’ll be able to enjoy the scenery into the bargain.

“It is important that you choose the sort of physical activity which suits your capabilities and you enjoy. That way you are more likely to make exercise part of your weekly routine”.
