RESTORERS in Yorkshire are leading the way in preserving crumbling buildings.
Only 4% of the region’s listed buildings are at risk of decay, the lowest figure in the country.
The research was done by English Heritage.
But Maddy Jago, of the Yorkshire and Humber Historic Environment Forum, said there was no room for complacency.
She added: “The report highlights many areas where we are making real progress in protecting the region’s historic environment.
“But we are concerned about a shortage of people with conservation skills such as masonry, carpentry and iron-working.
“It’s important we provide local training opportunities and recruit more skilled people.”
