You could soon spend more than a penny in two public toilets - as they could become shops.

Kirklees Council has applied for a change of use for the public toilets in Milnsbridge and Slaithwaite.

The council has previously said changing the use could net them more when selling assets.

Two planning applications have been submitted for the Morley Lane toilets in Milnsbridge and the Carr Lane toilets in Slaithwaite.

A1 use will mean the toilets can be used as a shop, hairdresser, undertaker, travel and ticket agencies, post office (but not sorting offices), pet shop, sandwich bar, showroom, dry cleaner, funeral director and internet cafe.

Kirklees Council has closed many of its public toilets in a cost-cutting drive.

However, a 10p charge has been dropped at the Queensgate Market and Dewsbury Market toilets.

Holmfirth's facilities are set to be taken over by the Parish Council, which is looking for people or groups to help them keep the public toilets open.

Both change of use applications for Milnsbridge and Slaithwaite are open to public comments at Kirklees Council before a decision is made.
