Some of the figures might surprise you - for example, sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice and prawn crackers adds up to 835 calories - a significant figure when you consider that the daily recommended figures are 2,000 calories for women and 2,500 for men.

Pizza is another heavyweight in  the takeaway world, with a whopping 1,835 calories in a 12 inch pizza.

Britons spend an average of £1,320 each year on takeaways - that’s 12 takeaways per person per month.

And in a bid to make the popular food healthier for Kirklees residents, the council's Food Safety Team is working with takeaway chefs to reduce the amount of salt in their dishes, use poaching instead of frying and offering reduced sugar drinks.
