A man had his arms cut after being attacked by a youngster wielding a meat cleaver who tried to rob him of his mobile phone in Huddersfield.

The attacker, aged between 12 and 15 and described as well spoken, lashed out at the 54-year-old who was running away after being threatened in the street by the youngster, who was with two friends.

The man was walking along Victoria Road, Lockwood , when one of the group produced the meat cleaver and demanded his mobile phone.

The man ran off but was chased by the youngster who lashed out with the meat cleaver, cutting the victim’s arms.

The injured man managed to escape, and no property was stolen.

Det Con Mick Cummings, of Kirklees CID, said: “This was a terrifying experience for the victim who sustained cuts to his arms during the incident.

“No property was stolen in the end, but I would like to speak to anyone who saw anything in the area or has any information to help with our enquiries.”

Police said the man had walked between the three teenagers when one of them produced the weapon, at about 9.45pm on Monday.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6ft tall, around 12-15 years old, of skinny build, with chin length brown hair, a round face and quite well spoken.

The other two boys who were with him were not involved, and are of a similar age.
