YOUNGSTERS from six schools in Huddersfield are "jumping for joy" after taking part in a sporting competition.

The competition was based on last year's gruelling BBC series Born to Win.

A BBC crew was on hand to film the competition, which was held at the Leeds Road sports facility. Tests included sprints, powerjump tests, press-ups and endurance in training.

The boys and girls had already won through heats in their schools to test all round sporting ability.

The schools competing were Scissett Middle School, Rawthorpe High School, Newsome High School, Kirkburton Middle School, Shelley High School and Moor End Technology.

Former Born To Win finalist Mark Buckingham from Honley, presented the trophies, sponsored by Huddersfield Nuffield Hospital, to winning athletes.

The winners were Vicky Rhodes, Robert Donaldson, Abigail Haywood, Joe Nixon, Shanieka Johnson, Ben Sheldon, Laura Booth, Jake Harman, Kirsty McCluskey and Nikoll Gjoka.

The programme is due to be transmitted at the end of March.
