A young boy has been taken to hospital with a head injury after hitting a car as he rode his bike out of a junction in Mirfield.

Police were called to West Royd Avenue at 11.43am to reports of a road accident.

Residents say the Year 8 boy, aged 11 to 12, of Castle Hall Academy, came out of West Royd Drive at its junction with West Royd Avenue without looking and hit a silver-coloured Chevrolet Spark+ being driven by a female carer.

The air ambulance landed in Knowl Park but was not needed as medics decided to take the still-conscious boy by road ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary.
