THREE teenagers who saved the life of a frail 92-year-old man have been hailed as heroes.

Dominic Douglas, 14, Tim Sykes, 15, and Max Haigh, 16, rescued Adrian Blackburn after he collapsed in the road outside his home in Rose Avenue, Cowlersley.

The boys moved the frail pensioner from the road after stopping traffic at 6pm on Friday.

Briony Garnett, 33, who lives on Rose Avenue, said she saw the boys rescue Mr Blackburn, who was later found to have a broken thigh, and move him to safety.

She added: "It was raining and very dark and a reversing car would have gone over Mr Blackburn if the boys had not moved him so quickly.

"They saved his life."

Dominic, who lives in South Avenue, Cowlersley, and is a pupil at Royds Hall High School, Paddock, said: "We saw him go over and just felt sorry for him. We wanted to see if we could help. So we went in the road without thinking and managed to move him."

Ms Garnett added: "The boys were offering Mr Blackburn their jackets and doing everything they could until an ambulance arrived.

"It made the hair stand up on the back of your neck to see them.

"Youngsters these days get a lot of bad Press, but I don't think I could have done what they did.

"They were all very calm and rescued him. They were fantastic," she said.

"Mr Blackburn is still in hospital, but I know he wants to say a big `thank you' to the boys."

Tim also lives in South Avenue and is a pupil at Colne Valley High School, Linthwaite. Max lives in Main Avenue, Cowlersley.
