BRAINBOXES from Rastrick Independent School have put their problem-solving skills to the test.

They took part in the National Mathematical Challenge, with Zoe Andrews and Edward Dawson achieving gold.

The challenge, run annually by the Mathematical Association, is offered to the top 60% of Year 5 and 6 students nationwide.

It involves them applying their mathematical knowledge to a series of challenging maths problems.

Gold achievers will go forward to the regional final which is usually held in Blackpool and then on to a national final next year.

The gold award winners are (front) Edward Dawson and Zoe Andrews with(from left) silver and bronze winners Alexandra Tattersley, Elizabeth Noble, Ella Armitage, Tamsin Turner, Annabel Whipp, Adam Roebuck, Rebecca Barry, Erin McLoughlin, Emily Mellor and Shelby Stephenson.
