A TEENAGE musician who has performed for the Queen was again successful at the Mrs Sunderland Music Festival.

Lydia Wyatt, of Rastrick, excelled on the piano and with the flute at the Huddersfield Town Hall competition.

The Rastrick High School student was part of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain which played at last year’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Lydia, who has played the flute since she was eight years old, won the piano recital class and the woodwind/recorder solo, both for year 11 and under.

Her performance on the piano earned an A for ‘outstanding’ which rarely happens.

Today the Mrs Sunderland festival reaches its climax with the Kirklees Young Musician of the Year Contest at the Town Hall from 4pm.

The six competing are: Ann Wilkes, Charles Baker, Emily Neale, Joseph Whelan, Katrina Lee and George Peck.
