A NEW day care centre for toddlers has made a bright start.
Paddock Day Care, which is based at and run by Paddock Junior Infant & Nursery School, has just been rated as Good (2) by Ofsted.
The day care centre, set up last year, has 66 under-fives on its roll and was praised in a number of areas.
One of the areas highlighted was communication, stating: “Children’s communication skills are fostered very well. Toddlers enjoy repetition through songs and rhymes and to help children who speak English as an additional language a song is sung in Punjabi.
“During ‘group time,’ three to five-year-olds are encouraged to talk about their experiences. As a result, they learn to listen to one another, take turns during conversation and learn to wait until someone else has finished speaking.”
Other main points in the Early Years Inspection are:
Children are happy, settled and eager to learn owing to the caring and attentive staff.
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well supported.
Children make good progress. Educational programmes are good, they cover all areas of learning well and are linked to children’s interests and stages of development.
The report added that there was scope to improve the information given by parents before the child starts at the day centre.
