Youngsters in Holmfirth were left devastated after a gang of youths trashed their pumpkin lanterns on Halloween.
The heartless yobs stole around 10 pumpkins left lined up by families on a wall outside their homes.
They were seen smashing them up and throwing one around “like a basketball.”
Neighbouring families in Woodland View all made smiley faced lanterns for their children and left them glowing on the wall.
The families went out trick-or-treating on Friday night and returned to find some of the pumpkins gone.
One of the mums confronted a gang of around 20 youths messing around with pumpkins at the nearby skate park and threatened to call police.
It is believed the yobs returned later to steal the rest of the pumpkins, leaving some youngsters in tears.
Dad Matt Fox, 31, said his two children Annabel, almost three, and William, almost two, were really upset.
“It’s a really nasty thing to do,” said Matt. “The neighbours had lined up the pumpkins outside.
“We had left ours on a table where we could see the glow through the kitchen window.
“When we came back we saw two pumpkins smashed on the skate park and one being thrown around like a basketball.
“We confronted the youths and they became abusive. We said we would call the police. They said why and we said: ‘What about stealing and underage drinking?’
“We stayed on guard for a while to see they didn’t come back. But they must have come back later and taken the rest.
“We found one round the back but the rest were either stolen, destroyed or thrown in the river.
“It’s nothing short of intimidation coming back to do that. We only do this for the kids.”
Holmfirth police have contacted the family and will step up patrols.
