A WOMAN carrying a baby girl was pelted with bricks after a gang stole her handbag.
She was walking back to her car on Walpole Road, Crosland Moor, at about 2.40pm on Wednesday when she noticed three youths attacking it.
They threw a stone through a window of the car, grabbed her handbag from under the seat and fled.
As the thieves were running away, other children started to throw bricks.
The woman was hit on her back and head. She suffered a cut head, but did not go to hospital.
The victim, who has asked not to be named, said: "The teenagers who stole the handbag are all boys in their early to mid- teens. They ran off towards nearby shops.
"The younger children are only aged 10, 11 or 12. There were about seven of them.
"They knew I was carrying a baby and was defenceless. I couldn't do anything to stop them.
"After throwing the bricks they were laughing and taunting me. It was a terrible experience."
The attack happened near the Wapole Family Centre.
The handbag contained a mobile phone, cash and other belongings worth a total of about £250.
The damage to the car window is around £180.
