A YOUTH from Kirklees was appearing in court today on two terrorism charges.

West Yorkshire Police said the 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested at a house in Ravensthorpe on Monday evening.

He was appearing at Westminster Magistrates Court in London.

Police said one charge related to possessing material for terrorist purposes and the second to collecting or possessing information useful in preparing a terrorist act.

It is understood that police seized computer equipment and other items from the house.

They carried out a detailed search but are not thought to have found anything of a hazardous nature.

It is the second time in less than a month that a teenager from the Dewsbury area has been detained as a terror suspect.

On September 12 another 17-year-old was held at his home, where police found chemicals, potentially used for making bombs, hidden under his bed.

He has been accused of trying to make bombs after a trip to Pakistan.

He was also alleged to have had a copy of the Anarchists Cookbook – which details bomb-making techniques – at his home.

The teenager is being held on remand.
