YOUNGSTERS from around the Meltham area took on police in a football tournament designed to break down barriers.

The young players went head to head on the pitch on Saturday against officers from the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team as well as members of West Yorkshire Fire Service, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, Sports for Schools, Kirklees Young People’s Services, Drugsense, Meltham Town Council and Street Scene.

It is the second year that the tournament has been held at Meltham Sports Complex.

It was organised by Pc Joanne Sharp from the Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team and Tony Holroyd, from Street Scene.

Pc Sharp said: “It’s an excellent opportunity for us to continue engaging with young people in the village.

“I organised this event so that all the agencies can get to know the young people of Meltham.”

The tournament winners were presented with a trophy by former Calendar presenter Jason McCartney, Colne Valley Conservative prospective Parliamentary candidate.
