A NEW pedestrian crossing is in use in Huddersfield.

People in Lockwood will now be able to cross Swan Lane more safely.

Clr Mohammed Sarwar (left), Liberal Democrat councillor for Crosland Moor, said he had tried for two years to get a crossing near Dixons ice cream shop.

Kirklees Council's highways section surveyed the area and agreed there was a need.

Clr Sarwar is pictured on the new crossing with local resident Mohamed Saeed.

Clr Sarwar, who lives near the site, said: "Swan Lane is a very busy road, used by pupils going to Mount Pleasant Junior Infant and Nursery School and Moor End Technology College.

"The local residents are very happy and have been congratulating me."
