A HUDDERSFIELD charity is calling on daredevils to take off.

The Laura Crane Trust is planning a second zip-wire challenge.

Thrillseekers are needed to take part in a charity zip slide across the Rapid Solicitors Stadium in Wakefield.

The charity organised a similar event at the John Smith’s Stadium last summer and raised thousands of pounds.

The event this year will take place before Wakefield Wildcats’ final game of the season against Castleford Tigers on Sunday, September 8.

It aims to raise money for the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, a national youth cancer charity based in Huddersfield, and the Wakefield Community Trust.

The cancer trust is now looking for supporters and fans to join the challenge and raise funds for its work, which aims to improve the lives of young cancer patients while they are undergoing treatments.

Participants will launch from a 70ft crane, and travel 500 feet across the stadium pitch.

The zip-wire, which coincides with the club’s 140th anniversary celebrations, will also see the Wakefield Dolls cheerleaders and club mascot Daddy Cool undertake the challenge.

Registration for the event costs £20, and participants are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100 toward the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust’s work into funding research of cancers affecting 13 to 24-year-olds.

Helen Mervill, fundraising manager at the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, said: “With it being the last game of the season, we expect there to be a fantastic atmosphere and even some other surprise zip sliders along the way.

“The event will be an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust within the area, as all young people with cancer from the region are treated at one of the two Leeds hospitals, which the charity supports.”

In September 2012, the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust organised its first zip slide at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield. The event raised more than £12,000.
