THE probe into the killing of a young Huddersfield man is carrying on even though a prime suspect is dead.

Detectives were this morning continuing to investigate the murder of 20-year-old Thornton Lodge man Zubair Munir who was found shot in the head and dumped on moorland above Ripponden last Sunday.

When police went to talk to suspect Alex Lawton who was staying at The Fleece in Ripponden on Monday afternoon, he produced a gun and shot two officers. Miraculously, both were only slightly hurt.

Lawton, 28, of Almondbury, was later found critically wounded in a car at Northowram, Halifax. He had shot himself in the head and died on Tuesday at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Police revealed that the bullet used to kill Zubair, the bullets which wounded the police and bullets found in Lawton's red Peugeot 106 car, all match.

But they have not ruled out the possibility that others were involved in Zubair's killing.
