Doctors and nurses at Dewsbury Hospital have given a damning indictment of their own care.

An NHS staff survey has revealed workers at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust are least likely to recommend their own hospitals as a place to receive treatment.

The Trust, which also runs Pinderfields and Pontefract hospitals, came last out of the 142 major hospitals in England.

The NHS report also reveals one of the highest scores for staff who have been bullied or harassed by their colleagues, with more than a quarter (27%) saying they had suffered abuse from co-workers.

The survey also found that 44% of Mid Yorkshire staff had suffered from work-related stress in the past 12 months.

Mid Yorkshire has promised to act on the findings of the report.

Chief executive Stephen Eames said: “Clearly these results are disappointing. Our staff work really hard to provide a good service and deserve to feel positive about their experience of coming to work.

“Our staff are the life blood of our service and we are committed to acting on their feedback.

“The Trust Board are taking this very seriously and we have already been following up to find out the reasons behind their responses so we can address specific areas.”

Mid Yorkshire said it carried out its own surveys, which showed that 83% of staff were happy with the standard of care provided in the department they worked in.

Mr Eames said £1m was being invested in the recruitment of more nurses at the Trust.
