M62 back to normal
As the motorway is back to normal now, here’s what we know about what happened today.
Thanks for joining us on the blog.
Allow extra time for your journey as there is still disruption on the M62 following a serious accident and later a broken down lorry. All lanes have been re-opened since mid-afternoon but traffic remains congested.
Traffic is still disrupted on the M62 westbound at junction 25.
Here’s the latest from the traffic cameras.
The broken down lorry has now been moved to the hard shoulder so all lanes to re-open west-bound between J25 A644 (Brighouse) and J24 A629 (Ainley Top)
We’ve just had a condition update from police on the biker who was injured in the crash. He has sustained serious leg injuries and is currently being treated at HRI.
All lanes re-opened at 2.20pm but a short time later a lorry broke down on the west-bound carriageway blocking one lane
Traffic is now queuing west bound in all lanes due to broken down lorry blocking one lane.
Here’s how it’s looking on the Highways cameras at junction 26 on the M62.
We’ve just heard that after a brief re-opening there’s now a broken down lorry blocking one of the three lanes on the Westbound carriageway causing stop-start traffic between junction 25 Brighouse and 24 Ainley Top.
We’ll check the latest from Highways now.
Both carriageways on the M62 on the affected stretch have now re-opened. Our reporter at the scene says the traffic is moving freely now.
WATCH: Air ambulance takes off from M62
Here’s some video of the air ambulance taking off. The air ambulance was not needed in the end and motorcyclist has been taken to HRI by road ambulance.
Motorcyclist 'has been taken to HRI'
Here’s what a police officer at the scene has told us...
“A man in his thirties was riding a Ducati motorcycle in the third lane of M62 at 12.50m when he collided with a black VW Passat. He’s been taken to HRI by road ambulance. His condition at the moment is unknown.”
Driver describes the scene as motorists wait for road to re-open
Motorist Anthony Pomfret says he was travelling westbound when he saw the air ambulance landing.
He said he could see a motorbike lying on the road, describing the scene as “very worrying”.
Eastbound is re-opened
Traffic has been released. Vehicles are still at standstill on the other carriage, though.

More pictures from the scene
A whole convoy of emergency services are at the scene.

Reporter Robert Sutcliffe is at the scene - you can just see the air ambulance on the far right by the trees.
This picture was taken near The Four Sons restaurant in Fixby - so traffic is at standstill up until about halfway between Brighouse and Ainley Top.
