Gray sets new club 10-mile best

STAINLAND Lions runner Karl Gray followed his seventh in the Three Peaks with a new record for his club’s Bluebell Trail over 10 miles.

Winner in 2006, Gray led all the way to the finish in a new best of 1hr 1min 36sec, ahead of last year’s winner Pumlani Bangani (Salford Harriers) in 1.02.53. Ben Mounsey finished third for Stainland in 1.04.30.

There was also a new record for ladies winner Karen Pickles, of Spenborough, in 1.15.31, with Stainland’s Gayle Sugden, last year’s winner (and, like Gray, a participant in the Three Peaks), second in 1.18.38. Treena Johnson from Dewsbury was third in 1.19.30.

The men’s team prize was won by Halifax Harriers – Jonathan Hare (4th), Phil Grimes (12th) and Mark Crabtree (15th). Ladies team prize went to Dewsbury with Johnson (3rd), Maxine Warden (6th) and Flora Skidmore (9th).

Stainland’s Aileen Baldwin was first in the F55 category.
