RU: Battling Field beaten in historic opener

HUDDERSFIELD produced a battling display but still went down 35-18 in their historic first National III North rugby union match at Fylde.

Fly half Chris Johnson accounted for 13 of his side’s points with a penalty, a drop goal a try and a conversion.

Winger Adam Sutcliffe also touched down for Mark Sowerby’s side, who host derby rivals Halifax this Saturday.

The Ovenden Park side went down 24-13 at home to Preston Grasshoppers.
