Fixby golfer Rochelle Morris makes her county debut

YOUNG Fixby golfer Rochelle Morris made her Yorkshire seniors debut this week in the Ladies’ Northern Counties match.

Scarborough course Ganton staged the Northern Region competition with Cheshire, Cumbria, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland and Yorkshire fighting it out for the title with the winners going on to the national final.

The competition, which comprises of a matchplay competition with three foursomes matches and six singles, started well for Yorkshire as they beat Cumbria 8-1 – the 16-year-old Morris partnering Tadcaster’s Charlotte Austwick for a foursomes win.

The pairing were winners again as Yorkshire beat Durham 9-0 in their second match and they were victorious again as Cheshire were beaten 6-3.

That took the competition to a final match showdown with leading teams Yorkshire, having scored 29 points, and Lancashire, just two points adrift, vying for a victory that would take them to the national finals.
