Top triumphs

NEWSOME Panthers and Emley Moor savoured excellent Pennine League Division II triumphs.

The Panthers proved far too strong for Dearne Valley Bulldogs as they secured a superb 54-16 away win, while Moor beat Ovenden A 44-18.

Newsome dominated their contest from start to finish, with Steve Farrell laying a magnificent defensive foundation with 25 tackles.

That enabled the attack to take control as tries were scored at regular intervals.

Simon Birkenshaw, Lee McAfferty and Jamie Taylor all scored two, with Alex Burrows, Dave Farrell, Ben Feehan and James Wallace adding the others.

Wallace also landed a goal on what proved a very impressive debut, with Burrows on target six times.

An excellent second-half display was at the heart of Moor's win over Elland.

Early in the second half the sides were locked at 18-18, with Emley's points coming through tries from Kris Shepherd, Darren Southwell, Glen Holdsworth and John Roebuck, who also added a goal.

But the visitors stepped up a gear, with further tries from Scott Wilkinson, Will Senior, Southwell, Holdsworth and Shepherd and goals from Roebuck sealing the victory.
