Moldgreen left to rue late collapse

MOLDGREEN signed off their Division I season with a 26-26 draw at Victoria Rangers.

But they were left feeling bitterly disappointed after throwing away a 26-12 lead midway through the second half.

The visitors were the better team in the first half and were full value for their 18-12 advantage.

Darren Simpson grabbed his side's opening try after collecting an excellent kick from Gary Monkhouse, who also landed the conversion, and he then added his second after more good work from Monkhouse and Michael Shaw.

Monkhouse followed up with a penalty before adding the extras to a try scored by Matt Johnson after a great run by Dale Williams.

Moldgreen started the second half strongly and with 20 minutes remaining had opened up a 14-point gap with further tries from Johnson and Abraham Philips.

But the visitors then took their eye off the ball and enabled their Bradford hosts to draw level and spoil Moldgreen's final day.

Johnson, pictured right, was named man-of-the-match, although he faced serious competition in this game, which bodes well for the future.

Emley Moor, meanwhile, have completed their Second Division campaign with a 24-8 defeat at champions Ackworth Jaguars.

The visitors trailed 14-4 at the break, with their points coming from a Taff Barron try.

Then in the second half Daniel Pawson crossed for his first try of the season in what was a major highlight.
