Panthers Juniors end on high note

NEWSOME Panthers ended another successful season with three victories in the Huddersfield Cup series.

And dominance was shown, with the Under 16s the only side to concede points in their final!

The Under 13s finished in style by demolishing Slaithwaite Saracens.

Lewis Graham set the ball rolling with the opening try, and by half-time the Panthers had opened up a 32-0 advantage.

It was a similar story after the break, with tries scored at regular intervals.

Man-of-the-match was Ben Warrilow, while there were big efforts from Ben Marchington, Luke Mackley and Patrick Oakes.

The Under 14s continued the theme as they brushed aside Underbank Rangers 56-0.

Newsome's tryscorers were Kieron Sill, Luke Nelmes, Scott Farnsworth, Thomas Broom, Josh Dixon, Nathan Robinson and Sean Annandale. James Usher also scored a try and six goals.

Playing in their last match together, the Under 16s (pictured right) signed off in style with a 58-4 victory over Slaithwaite.

Rhys Dutton scored a hat trick, Sam Dalby and Matty Garside crossed twice and Joe Parkinson, Josh Cuttell, Ben Dawson and Josh Taylor added the others.

Man-of-the-match Garside also kicked seven goals.

With several members of the squad moving on next year, the remaining players will be moving up two age groups and joining the younger players from the Under 18s under the guidance of the Steves, Cuttell and Walker.

The Under 15s, meanwhile, marked their final away League game of the season with a 40-4 victory at Clayton.

Newsome led 12-4 at the break, with tries from Mathew Graham, Chris Kendall and Joe Haywood.

In the second half, Haywood added a second and there were also tries for Jordan Andrade, Jayden Wood, James Coates and man-of-the-match Connor O'Gorman. Haywood added four goals, while top grafter Steve Lockwood and Harry McQuillan were prominent throughout.

The Under 12s gave promoted Sheffield Hawks a real fright in a superb game at Newsome.

The Panthers' three Kirklees Service Area representatives were to the fore, with Joe Gillespie scoring two long-range tries and a conversion and Jordan Higo and Tommy Wharton also impressive.

Man-of-the-match was Eddy Wallace, with Liam Gallagher and Sam Edwards sharing the grafters' award in the 22-10 defeat to the League champions.
