Sharp: "We must stay positive"

GIANTS chief Jon Sharp is urging his players to stay positive as he tries to arrest an alarming slide.

A catalogue of errors were again at the heart of their Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth-round exit at Hull KR on Sunday.

And that came on the back of individual mistakes proving their downfall in several recent Super League defeats which have left Huddersfield second-bottom of the table.

Not surprisingly, the confidence of the players has been hit hard.

But Sharp knows it’s vital for the squad to remain upbeat and that they need to put their recent setbacks behind them ahead of Sunday’s home Super League clash against Hull KR.

“Obviously the way the results have been going has hit the players hard,” admitted the coach.

“As a group, they’re really hurting right now, which you could obviously sense at training yesterday.

“But it’s vital that everyone remains positive.

“Although we’re all doing it tough, I still have complete faith in this squad.

“I know they have the ability to turn this situation around.

“Once again on Sunday, they showed in patches how good they can be. When they’re playing at their best they look the best side around.

“I’m sure one good win will help us get right back on track, and hopefully that will come on Sunday.”

Sharp seems certain to recall fit-again captain Chris Thorman, who proved in the reserves at the weekend that he has recovered from a dead leg.

But several players are carrying knocks in the wake of the cup defeat, with selection options for Sunday having been placed on hold.
