RL: St Joseph's and Emley Moor make final spots

The side’s man-of-the-match awards went to Matthew Gratino, Hendrick and Kelly.

It was also a good day for the first teams of St Joseph’s and Emley Moor as they chalked up excellent wins in the Pennine League.

In the Premier Division, Joe’s maintained their good form with a hard-fought 30-14 victory at Queensbury.

There was little to separate the sides in the opening period as the visitors led 10-8 thanks to two tries from Richard Aka and a Rob Joyce conversion.

Joe’s stepped up a gear in the second half, adding further tries through Aka to finish with four (to make it 21 for the season), Jimmy Folan and Simon Lyles.

Man-of-the-match was centre Matt Johnson, closely followed by fellow centre Ben Lewis and Folan, while there was a highly encouraging debut from young prop Marc Chatten, whop tore into the Queensbury forwards all game.

There was also victory for Moor in Division I as they powered to a 34-10 home triumph over King Cross Park.

Led magnificently in the pack by the Southwell brothers – Darren, Jason and Marcus – and the in-form Simon Adamski, the home side were dominant throughout.

By half-time they had built up a 22-0 lead thanks to two tries from Jason, one from Marcus and another from the fit-again Daniel Bedford, and three Michael Lang.

Then after the break, Matthew Johnson and Michael Lang added further tries to seal an excellent win in which veteran centre Andy Radley showed up well off the substitutes’ bench.
