RL: King James’s rule supreme!

KING JAMES’S School are enjoying unprecedented success in rugby league.

So far this year, the school’s Under 8s boys team have clinched the Yorkshire Nines title for the second successive year in a row and have also been crowned Kirklees champions.

And the Year 8 girls were able celebrate reaching the Yorkshire championships, while the Year 9 girls went one better and reached the national championships.

On top of that, the Year 8 B team, Year 9 B team and Year 10 team have all reached the Kirklees Shield final, with the games still to be played.

As well as this, the Year 9 Boys were runners-up in the Yorkshire Nines and the Kirklees Cup final.

The top individual performers were as follows:

Year 8 boys: Gypsy Black 53 tries in 15 games, Tom Beaumont 34 in 27, Timmy Taylor 154 points in 26 and Bradley Powell 23 in 23.

Year 9 boys: Callum Simms seven in nine, Jake Mann seven in 11, Sam Gill six in 11.

Year 10 boys: Jamie Weir 11 in five.

Year 8 girls: Hayley Clarkson eight in nine, Paige McTighe four in nine.

Year 9 girls: Tyler Gordon nine in six.

In all this year, 142 different pupils have represented the school at rugby, with the strongest year groups obviously being the 8s and 9s.
