Amateur rugby league: Mistakes prove costly for Emley Moor
Oct 21 2009 Huddersfield Daily Examiner
A SLACK spell just before half time proved costly for Emley Moor as they went down 30-22 at home to Birkenshaw in Division I of the Pennine League.
Moor made a strong enough start with a try from Scott Wilkinson and a John Roebuck goal giving them the lead and, despite conceding two tries and a goal, bounced back to lead again when Mark Kingsley crossed the line and Roebuck again added the extras.
They stretched that lead with a Dave Pawson touchdown, but in the final ten minutes of the first half Birkenshaw hit back and led 22-16 by the interval.
The second half proved a tighter affair but the visitors extended their lead with a try and a goal before Jason Southwell touched down for Moor and Roebuck added the goal.
Any hopes of a late rally were killed off when a penalty put Birkenshaw out of reach.
