ST JOSEPH’S take a step into the unknown when they open their Hamuel Reichenbacher Yorkshire Cup campaign at Rodley Dragons tomorrow.
Not only is it the Pennine League Premier Division side’s opening game of the season under new coach Kevin Bower, it is also a tie against a Leeds-based club of which little is known.
But it would still be a massive disappointment if Joe’s fell at the first hurdle, particularly as they could be drawn against Huddersfield rivals Slaithwaite later in the competition after the Saracens were handed a first-round bye.
Slaithwaite’s immediate task, however, is looking to make it two Premier Division wins out of two when they host Drighlington this weekend.
The Saracens couldn’t have wished for a better start to their season as they celebrated an 18-8 home triumph over highly-rated Hunslet Old Boys.
But with the South Leeds side having beaten Drighlington the week before, Slaithwaite will be relishing this weekend’s task.
In the Championship Division, Emley Moor will be looking to win at the third attempt when they travel to King Cross Park, while both of the town’s Division II teams are at home.
Lindley Swifts take on Dodworth and Newsome Panthers host Morley Borough.
Underbank Rangers will also be looking to make the most of home advantage against Greetland in Division III, while Meltham All Blacks entertain Shaw Cross A in Division V.
