UNDERBANK Rangers Under 14s opened their West Riding Youth League season with a hard-fought 42-40 victory over Hoyland Vikings.
Dale Rimmington was the star of the show as he scorched over for four tries, including one in the final seconds to level the scores.
Sam Marshall held his nerve to land the conversion - one of five successful kicks - and clinch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Other tries were scored by Oliver Moorhouse (2), Jason Temple and Daniel Downing, while Calum Calderwood and Joe Robinson also caught the eye.
Newsome Panthers Under 15s maintained their unbeaten start with a 48-0 victory over Ovenden.
The writing was on the wall for the Halifax side as early as the first minute when Sam Housley scored a length-of-the-field try to put the Panthers ahead.
Ben Starkey and Ben Good quickly followed up to extend the advantage and by half-time the lead was 24-0.
The second half proved a similar story, with man-of-the-match Michael Collins and captain Housley leading the charge in another dominant Newsome display.
Newsome's Under 13s were just as destructive as they beat Queensbury Thornton 46-0.
The Panthers' attack was back to its best as half-backs Joe Parkinson and Matty Garside started to spread the ball to the wings.
By half-time they had opened up a 20-0 lead and then further rammed home their advantage after the break.
Michael King led the tryscoring with a hat trick, while Andy Farrell and Garside grabbed two each.
Josh Cuttell, Jacob Senior, Jordan Wells, Philip Stanislaus and Adam King also crossed for tries and King (3), Farrell and Garside landed the goals.
There was also a very encouraging debut performance from Jordan Brook.
Deighton Under 14s proved too strong for Queensbury as they rattled up a 44-1 success.
Giants Scholarship player Jason Crookes opened the scoring with a try, goaled by James, and his side had a lead they never looked like losing.
By half-time the advantage was 26-0 as Crookes completed his hat trick and Lopag scored twice to put Deighton in total control.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with tries continuing to be scored at regular intervals.
Lopag followed Crookes by completing his treble, while Ansell and Lang also crossed and James finished with six goals.
Deighton's good form was carried on by the Under 13s who secured their first win of the season by defeating Slaithwaite 42-18.
Good performances came from Edward Wilson, who scored a hat trick, Mark Chatten, Matthew Roach, Sam James and Josh O'Neill, while Peter Lopag marked his debut playing a year under age with a try.
Other tryscorers were Tom Unwin, Chris Dean, James and Kris Harrop, with Chris Buckley kicking five goals.
The excellent pre-season work undertaken by Huddersfield Sharks Under 17s paid off as they beat Milford Marlins 23-16.
Jon Lee Sanderson was man-of-the-match, but was closely challenged by Danny Garside.
Alex Brown and Colin Denby scored two tries each, while Garside's three goals and a drop goal sealed the victory.
There was another excellent performance from the Under 16s, who won 56-18 at Crigglestone.
Oliver Brodzinski scored four tries and Michael Haigh converted from all over the pitch.
But man-of-the-match was Dave Farrell, for a great defensive stint.
