Who can win the Ashes for England? Focus on five candidates

Graham Swann

Graeme Swann, 31-year-old, bowler/ all-rounder

Northampton-born Swann, is primarily a right-arm offspinner but he can also bat right-handed.

After initially playing for his home county of Northamptonshire, for whom he made his debut in 1997, he then moved to Nottinghamshire in 2005.

He sometimes fields at slip.

In 2007 Swann accompanied England on its tour of Sri Lanka as the team’s second spin bowler alongside Monty Panesar, this was when he earned a place in the first team.

In December 2009 he became the first English spinner to take 50 wickets in a calender year.

In May this year he was named ECB Cricketer of the Year.

He is a man for the big occasion.
