Athletics: 50 not out for Booth and Ramsden
Dec 28 2010 by David Lockwood, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
MARTIN BOOTH and Trevor Ramsden have been honoured by Holmfirth Harriers after completing 50 years service with the club.
The two men, who are both 63 and residents of Honley, joined the club as teenagers and have been firm friends ever since.
They were made honorary life members back in 2001 to mark their terrific contributions to the Harriers.
Both Booth and Ramsden have had their share of triumphs in club races.
Ramsden won the Tinker Cup on four occasions – and he was still there in this year’s event, when he came home in 1hr, 25min, 41sec – while he also lifted the Willie Firth Memorial Trophy on two occasions.
As well as being a keen runner, winning the Haigh Cup and Frank Beever Memorial Trophy, Booth has also made his mark on the administration side.
He was club secretary for 15 years as well as serving on numerous committees, including the Yorkshire Cross Country Association, where he was president for three years, and the English Cross Country Union.
Holmfirth Harriers president Ashley Smith presented both men with an inscribed cut glass tankard to commemorate the occasion during this year’s Tinker Cup presentations at Honley Cricket Club.
Afterwards a large group of club members and friends enjoyed a Christmas party, arranged by Kirsti Dickinson (who had completed the Tinker Cup course earlier in the day) at the Galpharm Stadium.
