Worthy winner

TOM SCHOFIELD, the double Halifax Merit winner, won the Huddersfield Bowling Association’s grand final of the season – the Champion of Champions.

He beat competition from 16 of the county’s best bowlers to land the first prize with a 21-11 victory against Norman Airey in, ‘a casual sort of way,’ said reports at the time.

With the score at 10-7 Schofield stepped up a gear to take command.

Bowling finger peg on a mark on the low side of the crown, he dropped only one more end throughout the remainder of the match, to run out a deserved champion at Lindley WMC.
