A FORMER president of the Huddersfield Bowling Association has laid down the gauntlet to teams in this year’s Yorkshire Cup.

Ken Atkinson, who presided over the Association in 1987 and 1988, has pointed out that it has been 32 years since a Huddersfield club has lifted the prestigious trophy.

He said: “With this year’s Yorkshire Cup well under way, the event was last won 32 years ago by Huddersfield C and AC.

“The team was captained to success by Fred Whitehead before many of the current young star players were even born.

“I hope that by highlighting this fact it may just encourage our top players to try their utmost to make sure that the Yorkshire Cup does not elude us for another three decades.”
