Bowls: Young Glenn grabs title

YOUNG Glenn O’Sullivan showed maturity beyond his years to win the Liberal Merit.

The Crosland Moor Manor bowler overcame the more experienced – and twice winner from 1996 and 97 – Brian Morley of Lindley Lib 21-14 to pick up the Coronation Cup.

It was O’Sullivan’s first major bowling title in what was the 57th staging of the Milnsbridge Liberal Club-sponsored event, and he now goes on to the Champion of Champions (representing the Liberal League) at Marsh United on Sunday October 4.

While O’Sullivan has reached several finals in his short bowling career, this time he held his nerve to defeat some very strong opponents.

None was stronger than Morley, who played some stunning bowls to win through a succession of close matches 21-20, 21-18 and 21-20 again.

But all those hard games maybe took some toll as the finale belonged to O’Sullivan, who demonstrated a quiet temperament and total concentration to compile that 21-14 scoreline.

Earlier, the ‘men in black’ contingent from Almondbury Lib produced some great bowling but couldn’t quite get to the 21 finish line.

Andrew Heaume lost 21-15 to the winner, while James and Michael Martin went down 21-20 in their matches.
