LOCKWOOD CON beat Mirfield to win the Sanderson Cup.

Linda Bottomley of the victorious team was voted player of the day by members of the committee.

Mirfield were defeated 155-131 in the showpiece at New Mill BC.

Four evenly-matched teams provided plenty of enthralling bowling, with Almondbury BC A and Milnsbridge BC A the losing semi-finalists.

Mirfield beat Almondbury 144-127 while Lockwood Con beat Milnsbridge 153-115.

The trophy was presented by the new sponsor, Les Mitchell.

Sixteen ladies have entered the 35th Almondbury Village Competition, the Fenay Cup, which is being staged tonight (6.30).

Handicapping will be done before the draw at 6.25 and a strong competition is expected.

Taking part from the Bowling Club are Leanne Dyson, Heather Dyson (who won the event last year), Stacie Shaw, Sharon O’Melia, Christine Mizon, Nancy Wood, BE Lees and Susan Lees.

Doing battle from the Liberal Club are Yvonne Heaume, Elizabeth Beaumont, Hazel Lunn, Laura Hopkinson, Elizabeth Martin, Jean Martin, Hannah Martin and Linda Drury.

There’s £100 in prize money for the final four, with the winner taking £50, runner-up £25 and the losing semi-finalists £12.50.

The competition is jointly sponsored by Almondbury BC and Almondbury Lib.
