Bowls: No joy for local challengers at Mirfield

THERE was no joy for the local challengers in the final of the Mirfield Old Bank Autumn Double which was won by Radcliffe pair Jim Derby and Paul Dudley.

Derby and Dudley beat Ashley Daykin and Paul Sigsworth 57-40 in the semis, while the Spen Vic/Brighouse pairing of Peter Jagger and Chris Mordue were beaten 59-54 by Liverpool’s Danny Barwise and Phil Lee.

The Radcliffe duo went on to win the final against their Merseyside rivals 56-50.
