HUDDERSFIELD need a massive effort in their final match to retain the Yorkshire Inter-district title.
They are tied on 201 points with Skipton at the top of the table – and they meet each other on Friday, July 29 in a showdown for the honours.
But West Riding are ominously placed on 190 in third as they prepare to round off against bottom district Leeds, so no-one can relax.
In their latest outing against Wakefield, Huddersfield went down 29-27 overall, with the away result (a 20-8 reversal) particularly disappointing.
Playing at BJD 100, Dave Burnand was the only winner with a 21-13 scoreline, while Eddie Haigh, Peter Green and Terry Randerson all lost to 14, Barry Gibson and Viv Smith to 17, Frank Griffin to 19 and Roger Stopford to 20.
At home at Lockwood Con, Huddersfield won 19-9 with Frank Greenwood winning 21-12, Brendan O’Prey 21-13, Dennis Hirst 21-20, John Hoyle 21-14 and Roy Sutton 21-7, while Brian Starkey went down to 14, Dennis Garner to 20 and Brian Morley to 19.
