Bowls: Milnsbridge win the Veterans Bistro bowling competition

HIGHLY-successful Milnsbridge remained on course for the Grand Slam when they won the Veterans Bistro final 98-84.

After the first three games, Milnsbridge were 17 points in front and it proved too big a lead for Waterloo to realistically pull back.

They tried, however, and there was some excellent bowling in the last two games.

Among many fine individual performances in a well-contested final, Roy Sutton and Dave Burnand played well and, on another day, could have been easy winners, but Dennis Hirst, who was playing with Milnsbridge captain Trevor Barker, played out of his skin and saved countless points for his team.

Vice-president of the Huddersfield Veterans Association, Derrick Gee, thanked Barrie Nicholl and the Elland club for their hospitality and help with organisation. Nicholl presented the prizes.

Milnsbridge have now won the Team KO and the Bistro and are six points in front going into the last league match, so are favourites to win the lot.

Brockholes Bowling Club’s Open Mixed Pairs was won by L and A Carter. Runners-up were J and P Buchan. The subsidiary competition was won by B Lendon and R Firth. Runners-up were D and M Smith.
