YORKSHIRE Ladies begin their season on Sunday with a match against South Staffordshire.

The team won the British CGLBA supplementary competition – the Waterloo Cup – last year and are looking for more success.

South Staffordshire finished in fifth place in a group of six last year while in the last meeting of the two teams in 2007, the home team at Outlane won by 60 points.

The home leg will be played at Linthwaite Hall this time (2pm) – the side made up entirely of Huddersfield bowlers – and the away team travel to Amery Bowling Club in Staffordshire. It’s the first of four games in the first round of the competition.

Alicia Ormsby of Meltham, the first junior lady to win the British title in two consecutive years, will be playing for the Yorkshire home team in a squad reflecting experience and current form.

And the team would welcome plenty of support.
