Owen, 14, rattles up 95no in great win

FOURTEEN-year-old Jack Owen produced a stunning innnings to inspire Lascelles Hall to a six-wicket win over Kexborough in their Drakes League Inter-Conference Two clash.

The young King James’s student batted through 45 overs to finish unbeaten with 95, putting on 90 for the second wicket with Richard Shaw (43) and 94 for the third wicket with Tom Whiteman (45) to overhaul Kexborough’s 193 total – in only Owen’s second game for the club.

For once, Kirkburton’s opening duo both failed, David Greaves and Gary Eastwood both falling for ducks, but Richard Kettlewell rescued them with 43 after Oliver Davidson’s five for 22 had Holmfirth back in the pavilion for just 94.

Honley’s Chris Brown missed out on a century by just three runs after leading his side to a six-wicket win over Golcar, as he and opener Simon England (72no) put on 161 for the fifth wicket.

Freddie Garside scored a maiden 50 for Slaithwaite, while Derrick Maguire made 65 to seal a seven-wicket win over Scholes.
