Club umpires rally for double-header

DRAKES League clubs face a double header this weekend.

The washed-out opening day programme from April 19 is being re-run on Sunday (1.30).

With a number of umpires unwilling to stand, umpires secretary Ron Tindall has requested that Second XI ‘away team’ umpires will be required for the Sunday games at Kirkburton, Golcar, Honley, Primrose Hill, Linthwaite, Emley, Marsden, Meltham, Lascelles Hall and Kirkheaton.

There are also four games tomorrow where the away team’s official will be required to stand, and those are at Thongsbridge, Primrose Hill, Rastrick and Honley.

Several clubs will have to do without players on Sunday as the Joe Lumb Cup side are in action at Denby Dale (1.00).

Sunday’s opponents are the Nidderdale League, who are one of the favourites with several Yorkshire youngsters in their line-up.

Huddersfield will again be led by Broad Oak’s Jack Hargreaves and will include Jordan Geldart playing on his own ground.

Huddersfield: Jack Hargreaves (capt) (Broad Oak), Sam Hall (Marsden), Josh Clarkson and Dan Barber (both Skelmanthorpe), Sam Denton (Shepley), Tom Brook (Scholes), Jordan Geldart (Denby Dale), Oliver Davidson and Michael Smith (both Kirkburton), Max Gummerson and Alex Kemp (both Thongsbridge), Gurman Randhawa (Lascelles Hall).
