Cricket: Golcar to face Honley in big Romida Sykes clash

GOLCAR’S reward for knocking out Romida Sykes Cup holders Barkisland is a second successive home tie – this time against League champions Honley!

The showtime clash at Swallow Lane on Sunday, May 17, is undoubtedly the tie of the second round, made last night at the League’s monthly council meeting at the Huddersfield Hotel.

Four-time League champions Honley enjoyed a 10-wicket win over Shelley in the first round, but will not relish the prospect of visiting Golcar, particularly if Craig Horner maintains the sort of form he showed against Barkisland, when he top scored with 71 and then took seven wickets.

Skelmanthorpe, winners in 2007, also have a second consecutive home tie (they beat Shepley last weekend) when they entertain Cedar Court Conference giant-killers Hall Bower, conquerors of Broad Oak.

Last season’s beaten finalists Delph & Dobcross (yet to lift the prestigious Sykes Cup) will play host to rejuvenated Scholes, while Elland visit Meltham in another all-Premiership clash.
