Cricket: Scholes top in drama

Paul Winrow was one of two century-makers on Sunday, his unbeaten 105 leading the way as Barkisland inflicted more misery on Meltham with an eight-wicket win at Mean Lane.

Jake Thorne hit 64 for the home side in a 200-9 tally, but it was never going to test Barkisland once their skipper was on his way, backed up by Andrew Fraine (46) and Ben Wells (34no).

The day’s other ton came at Honley, where Simon Kelly (114) and Johnny Greaves (58) put on 149 for the first wicket against troubled Micklehurst, who were dismissed for 186 (Harlon Haye four for 45) in reply to Honley’s hefty 291-6.

Ben Robshaw (46 not out) led Golcar to a much-needed League win after Will Hinchliffe’s four for 48 had helped reduce Shepley to 134 all out, Ben Hilliard and Steve Whiwam also chipping in with three wickets apiece.

Like Meltham, Clayton West are now starting to get detached at the foot of the table, their latest loss coming at the hands of Holmfirth.

Matt Gummerson claimed four for 24 and Tom Craddock and Carl Fletcher three wickets apiece as Clayton were shot out for 104, only Jonny Butterfield (48) showing defiance.

Holmfirth lost their first three men for just 23, but Fletcher (64 not out) and Greg Alexander (25 not out) ensured their were no further worries, as they knocked off the target in 23 overs.
