Cricket: Honley v Elland is Black draw

ELLAND set up a Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions’ quarter-final clash with holders and fellow Drakes League stablemates Honley after blasting out Craven League champions Cullingworth.

After getting rid of opener Greg Finn cheaply, it was a one-way contest as Sam Scott (55) and Lee Baxter (57) put on 116 for the second wicket before Richard Whiteoak took over, slamming seven sixes and 12 fours in an unbeaten 107, while Craig Fletcher gave good support with three sixes and half-a-dozen fours in a quickfire 60 as Elland posted a massive 358-7 total.

Fletcher then got to work with the ball, ripping through Cullingworth’s fragile batting to claim six for 28 from 10 overs, backed up well by his opening partner Danny Rhodes who took three for 33 as the Craven men were blown away for just 125.

Elland visit Honley (scheduled before July 12).

Slaithwaite’s John Booth return to his old stomping ground at Lascelles Hall when he leads an MCC side against Huddersfield New College on Wednesday (11.30).

Included in the College team will be Scholes’ Tom Brook (Huddersfield’s Joe Lumb Cup skipper) and the Elland pair of Jack Pulley and Dominic Finn.
