Cricket: Race on for batting cash prize
Jun 27 2009 by David Lockwood, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
IT promises to be an exciting race to the line to become the first Conference batsmen to reach 500 Drakes League runs and with it, the Examiner prize of £50.
Three front-runners all made significant moves nearer to the landmark and closed up on long-time leader John Ashton, from Hoylandswaine.
Emley Clarence’s Pat Moors hit the front with an unbeaten 77, while Ben Raven-Hill’s undefeated 98 for Thongsbridge, and an unbeaten 95 from Chris Schofield at Shelley made it more-than-likely a four-man race to the line.
Moors goes into today’s game with Kirkburton leading with 411, Ashton is on 402, Schofield on 394 and Raven-Hill on 392.
Much further down the field is Kexborough’s Adam Wiles, who would need 141 against Hall Bower to pip the top four.
